WORSHIP PARTICIPANTS

Philosophy of Worship

1)   Worship should be a dynamic, positive experience in which people are nurtured, challenged and empowered.

2)   We believe in the power of diverse expressions of worship that utilize all the senses in glorifying God. We are called to stretch our comfort zones and experience a variety of worship styles.

3)   Worship is a corporate act. We gather as the body of Christ to praise God and experience the rites and sacraments of the church as acts of worship.

4)   Mutuality is a philosophical value of worship. We believe in the priesthood of all believers. It is the faith of the community that consecrates the communion elements not the person who tells the story. The role of clergy staff is to guide, empower and equip all people for worship.

5)   We believe that worship has the power to convey the immediate presence of God to the community. We believe that we, the church, are instruments of God’s love to one another.

6)   We strive for excellence in worship. We want to proclaim the gospel with confidence, consistency and through movement. It is critical to bring all pieces of a service together so that it flows and leads from one part of the service to another.

7)   Worship is symbolic and our theology is expressed through words, music, movement and visual symbols.

Volunteer Roles in Worship

Communion ministers:
These are the people that offer a brief prayer for blessing to members of the congregation that come forward to receive communion.

Holders:
These individuals hold the elements (bread and juice) for communion so that everyone can get served communion in a timely fashion. It is an honor to serve and a prayerful time for holders.

Participant:
Participants have a public speaking part in worship. They lead prayers, both written and extemporaneous ones. Participants also automatically serve as communion ministers.

Prayer partners:
These individuals offer intercessory prayer for anyone who comes to them in need of prayer during the communion time of the worship service. They speak, typically, with an individual or couple but not in front of the whole congregation.

Readers:
These individuals read scripture aloud for the body of Christ to hear during worship.

Training is provided for individuals who are interested in being involved in worship at these various levels .
